I was wondering what size fan would be needed to upgrade the current one, also how difficult it would be to upgrade the cpu heatsink. Thank you for any advice you can give me, I'm new to the PC world. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Comments TSTDavey admin March 29 Hello @snyders6 and thanks for posting on the Microcenter Community Forum. Dell uses proprietary components and changing your cooler could be a risk. Why are we wanting to upgrade the CPU cooler on a Dell? I'm new at this so I'm not sure which parts would fit/work best. Your recommendations would be great, thanks!  0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Comments TS_JosephF admin May 2020 Hello @tonyd95 and welcome to the community! I am assuming that this is a Small Form Factor PC. I found the specs of it but I cannot determine what the dimensions are for your power supply. I am not sure if it is just a standard PSU or proprietary. Are you able to post some pictures of the inside of your PC? We really need to see the overall size of the power supply and the main connector on the motherboard. I will be happy to see what we have that is compatible with your PC. Also, you mention replacing your current graphics card, what is the model number of that?  0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook tonyd95 ✭ May 2020 I hope these help. I'm not very savvy when it comes to parts so forgive me if they aren't the correct ones.  IMG_2748.jpg 2.7M IMG_2745.jpg 2.5M IMG_2746.jpg 2.6M IMG_2744.jpg 3M 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook TS_JosephF admin May 2020 edited May 2020 Thank you. These pictures were very helpful. Based on your system you would have a 250-watt power supply. Now, I actually would not recommend upgrading the power supply in the system. You should be able to use this Radeon HD 5450 graphics card: https://www.microcenter.com/product/462019/visiontek-radeon-hd-5450-low-profile-passive-cooled-2gb-ddr3-pcie-21-graphics-card You do not need any extra cables from the power supply as it will be powered directly from the PCIe slot. Unfortunately, this would be the best graphics card you could use with this Optiplex 7020 with it being a small form factor PC.  0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook tonyd95 ✭ May 2020 Thank you so much for your help! Just one more question, how much of an upgrade would this be in graphics compared to what my computer currently has? 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Ian admin May 2020 tonyd95 said: Thank you so much for your help! Just one more question, how much of an upgrade would this be in graphics compared to what my computer currently has? A card like this I would consider more of a desktop graphics card (for additional monitor purposes). Not saying gaming is impossible, you can play older games on it and possibly newer titles at lower resolutions and low/minimum settings.  0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Categories 7K All Categories 1.1K The Blog 38 What's Trending 167 How to & Technical Guides 11 Computer Hardware 119 Software 3 Home Office 6 Networking Audio/Visual 2 Home Automation 16 3D Printers 10 Maker 16 PC Build Guides 96 Reviews & Buying Guides 34 Build Showcase 17 Contests 39 Past Contests 1K The Community 1.8K General Discussion 84 New Members 127 Consumer Tech 42 Prebuilt PCs and Laptops 78 Software 4 Audio/Visual 13 Networking & Security 1 Home Automation 2 Digital Photography 3 Content Creators 22 Hobby Boards & Projects 26 3D Printing 53 Retro Arcade/Gaming 86 All Other Tech 1.4K Store Information and Policy 52 Off Topic 6 Community Ideas & Feedback 114 Your Completed Builds 2.7K Build-Your-Own PC 1.7K Help Choosing Parts 227 Graphics Cards 175 CPUs, Memory, and Motherboards 63 Cases and Power Supplies 19 Air and Liquid Cooling 17 Monitors and Displays 30 Peripherals 10 All Other Parts 23 Featured Categories We love seeing what our customers build Submit photos and a description of your PC to our build showcase Submit Now Looking for a little inspiration? I downloaded the specs for my laptop, nothing with the word "fan" in it. I called their support, person disconnected the call. I searched their tech support--no part number for a fan. The laptop is out of warranty by a couple weeks and Dell refuses to replace it. I hate taking apart laptops and only want to do it once--when I actually replace the fan. Anyone know how to find out the part number? I want to get the correct fan. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Comments TSTonyV admin July 2020 When you searched for Dell's part number, did you go to their website and try looking it up by the service tag? https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/partsforyourdell/index?~ck=mn I'd start there, if you haven't.  0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Ladybugf8 ✭ July 2020 That was the first thing I did. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook TSTonyV admin July 2020 If Dell won't provide the part information, I'm not sure there's a better way to figure out what fan is in a system than just Googling it, or opening up the computer and checking the part number on the unit itself. Our service desk could verify the correct parts with Dell if you were to bring it in to us for repair, but it sounds like you want to do it yourself.  I tried to find some information online but "Inspiron 3500" doesn't appear to be a model I can find information on, I found information for Latitude 3500 or Vostro 3500 instead. Are you sure this is an Inspiron model? If you private message me your service tag I can double check.  0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Categories 7K All Categories 1.1K The Blog 37 What's Trending 167 How to & Technical Guides 11 Computer Hardware 119 Software 3 Home Office 6 Networking Audio/Visual 2 Home Automation 16 3D Printers 10 Maker 16 PC Build Guides 96 Reviews & Buying Guides 34 Build Showcase 17 Contests 39 Past Contests 1K The Community 1.8K General Discussion 84 New Members 127 Consumer Tech 42 Prebuilt PCs and Laptops 78 Software 4 Audio/Visual 13 Networking & Security 1 Home Automation 2 Digital Photography 3 Content Creators 22 Hobby Boards & Projects 26 3D Printing 53 Retro Arcade/Gaming 86 All Other Tech 1.4K Store Information and Policy 52 Off Topic 6 Community Ideas & Feedback 114 Your Completed Builds 2.7K Build-Your-Own PC 1.7K Help Choosing Parts 227 Graphics Cards 175 CPUs, Memory, and Motherboards 63 Cases and Power Supplies 19 Air and Liquid Cooling 17 Monitors and Displays 30 Peripherals 10 All Other Parts 23 Featured Categories We love seeing what our customers build Submit photos and a description of your PC to our build showcase Submit Now Looking for a little inspiration? I left a message here on Friday, but did not get an answer. I need to connect an older model Dell monitor with the three rows of prongs to my HP Elitebook which only has an HDMI and two USB ports. Do you have an adapter that works for this? 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Best Answer TSMikeW admin May 2020 Accepted Answer Three rows could be DVI or VGA. VGA is three rows of five. The port is generally color coded blue. DVI is generally color coded white. There would be on one side it'll have a dash or a blade pin, possibly with four pins around that if it's DVI-I.  Either way it's going to be an HDMI to DVI or VGA adapter which we do carry. Please specify which one you have or upload a picture and we'll link you to the exact product. 5 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Categories 7K All Categories 1.1K The Blog 37 What's Trending 167 How to & Technical Guides 11 Computer Hardware 119 Software 3 Home Office 6 Networking Audio/Visual 2 Home Automation 16 3D Printers 10 Maker 16 PC Build Guides 96 Reviews & Buying Guides 34 Build Showcase 17 Contests 39 Past Contests 1K The Community 1.8K General Discussion 84 New Members 127 Consumer Tech 42 Prebuilt PCs and Laptops 78 Software 4 Audio/Visual 13 Networking & Security 1 Home Automation 2 Digital Photography 3 Content Creators 22 Hobby Boards & Projects 26 3D Printing 53 Retro Arcade/Gaming 86 All Other Tech 1.4K Store Information and Policy 52 Off Topic 6 Community Ideas & Feedback 114 Your Completed Builds 2.7K Build-Your-Own PC 1.7K Help Choosing Parts 227 Graphics Cards 175 CPUs, Memory, and Motherboards 63 Cases and Power Supplies 19 Air and Liquid Cooling 17 Monitors and Displays 30 Peripherals 10 All Other Parts 23 Featured Categories We love seeing what our customers build Submit photos and a description of your PC to our build showcase Submit Now Looking for a little inspiration? NOTE: While this model is no longer sold by Micro Center or the manufacturer, this information may still be useful to those using this model of computer. Here is how to do this: First, locate the FN (Function) key. It is located at the bottom left corner of the keyboard to the right of the CTRL (Control) key. Notice that the FN key is orange. Now take a look at the top row of keys on the keyboard there is a row of keys starting with the letter F (F1, F2, F3, F4...) on each of these F keys there is an orange icon. The FN key allows you to use those orange icons. In this instance, we want to enable or disable the touchpad if you notice on the F3 key there is a picture of a touchpad with an X through it. Certified Refurbished This product has been refurbished to original factory specifications or better by the original manufacturer or their designated manufacturing facility.  The product is fully tested by component. Any electronic hardware not passing diagnostic testing is replaced. Any case, screen, or other external components of the product are inspected for imperfections, and defects are repaired or replaced to meet or exceed the original specifications; some manufacturers will allow minor cosmetic blemishes that do not affect device performance or enjoyment. Consumable components like batteries must meet a highly acceptable standard or are replaced with new. The product must run through and pass normal manufacturer testing before being repackaged for sale. Certified Refurbished products come fully backed with a limited warranty that is typically backed by the original manufacturer and can also be promptly facilitated at the Micro Center Store. *Apple, HP, Dell, and others use the description Certified Refurbished *Similar descriptions of Certified Refurbished might include Certified Pre-Owned (Samsung) Remanufactured This product has been remanufactured to factory specifications by a reputable repair company. It is NOT just a used product that has been cleaned up and called refurbished; this product will have all the form, fit and function of a like new product. The product is disassembled and fully tested by component. Any electronic hardware not passing diagnostic testing is replaced. Any case, screen, or other external components of the product are inspected for imperfections, and defects are repaired or replaced to meet or exceed the original manufacturer specifications. Consumable components like batteries must meet a highly acceptable standard or are replaced with new. The product is reassembled and must run through and pass normal manufacturer testing before being repackaged for sale. Remanufactured products come fully backed with a limited warranty that is promptly facilitated at the Micro Center Store. Off Lease Refurbished Off lease refurbished products typically refer to a product that has been used for a period of time, often in a business or educational environment, but still has useful life remaining. An off-lease product typically goes through general testing to make sure that it works before it is offered for resale but is not necessarily restored to a specific like-new condition. Off lease refurbished products may have some cosmetic blemishes due to normal use, and while they come with all components necessary to function as intended, the components may not exactly match the original manufacturer specification of that model. One benefit with off lease refurbished products is they offer potentially the most significant savings compared to refurbished, remanufactured, or similar brand-new product. Off lease refurbished products are backed with a limited warranty that is promptly facilitated at the Micro Center Store. © Vanilla Foundation Theme 2021 Powered By Vanilla Community Article 3 part question about Dell Inspiron 1564 Harddrive replacement — Micro Center Computers Computer Parts Custom PC Builder DIY/ Maker {$smarty.capture.menu} Activity Categories Discussions Computers Computer Parts Custom PC Builder DIY/ Maker Home › Help Choosing Parts 3 part question about Dell Inspiron 1564 Harddrive replacement Kec2 ✭ March 13 in Help Choosing Parts 1) I need a recommendation (confirmation) on a hardrive for this laptop. Yes you can change the hard drive in this. A 2.5" 7200rpm drive is a tough find. As seeing the laptop already has a 5400rpm drive, if you're looking for an upgrade in storage and speed, I'd suggest looking at a 1 TB 2.5" SSD for just a few dollars more than a standard 1TB 5400RPM drive. Something such as https://www.microcenter.com/product/508183/inland-professional-1tb-ssd-3d-nand-sata-iii-6gb-s-25-internal-solid-state-drive will work great with your laptop. We can assist you with this process. Simply bring your system to the service desk at your closest Micro Center and our knowledgeable technicians will be happy to assist you with migrating or cloning your data. Is it possible to replace the screen with another screen that isn't the one it was originally manufactured to be used with? 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Comments TSTDavey admin December 2020 @Gus I'm not sure another screen will solve your issue. For a Dell, those systems could function with an aftermarket LCD screen that is designed for the Inspiron 3593. But those screens would be designed for the Inspiron 3593 and to work with it; so the screen would function the same way the current Inspiron 3593 screen works. You could get an external web cam and plug it into the Dell's USB port and have the webcam to the side of the laptop for better video chat. Just a suggestion. The monitor fires up beautifully with the work laptop - an HP ZBook Studio G5 running Windows 10 Pro. When I connect it to my home desktop - a Dell G5 5090 running Windows 11 - the monitor can't/won't make a connection. The logo shows up, it briefly says "No Signal", then it goes blank. As I understand it, I need a Thunderbolt port on the Dell desktop. Any recommendations on good PCIe cards for this? I'm not looking for most expensive top-of-the-line, just something to fit this use case. Thanks in advance! 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Answers TSKevinG admin November 15 Good afternoon @rmissey I do apologize you are having issues with the dell computer. Are you able to test the system with a different monitor to verify that the issue is with the system. Also was this dell system purchased from micro center? 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook magarity ✭ November 16 No, no, it is not a case of having trouble with the Dell. The external monitor is a "Thunderbolt" type which apparently the Dell does not have. Maybe it only has the basic USB-C which is confusing because the plug is the same but not the full functionality. Amazon has listings for Thunderbolt PCIe cards that are not graphics cards but your Dell would need to have CPU based graphics in it which looks like it does if it has Intel CPU. One of those would probably work but you should get the details on any particular model to make sure. 1 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook rmissey ✭ November 17 https://community.microcenter.com/discussion/comment/37390#Comment_37390 Magarity's correct - no issues with the Dell desktop, except that it doesn't have built-in Thunderbolt capability. I ordered an Asus ThunderboltEX 4 online & installed it. I didn't have any luck with that, but Asus support wasn't helpful in figuring out why. Is there any resource I can look at that will show me PCIe Thunderbolt cards that will work with my desktop system to support this monitor? I primarily bought it as an extra monitor for a laptop, but would love to use it on the desktop too. If it comes down to not being able to use it on the desktop, bummer, but not a huge deal. Thanks! 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook magarity ✭ November 18 There is probably a Reddit about Thunderbolt but it's a bit rare of a topic for this forum. I had a Samsung 4k 28" display and decided to go bigger with an AOC 34" Curved (Model CU34G2X), but the issue I have is that the image is not as sharp as my previous display. I have replaced the cable from HDMI to a USBC to DisplayPort and the issue still exists. The image is just not clear and sharp, if I do not resolve this issue I will have to return the display 😞 The first image is the new display, the second is my old monitor. Does anyone recommend anything to make it work as it should? 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Comments Ian admin November 2 Greetings, screenshots of what's displayed on your monitor wouldn't show us any difference unfortunately. It is possible the newer monitor's panel is not as high quality as your other monitor's. You can look at reviews or other user's calibrations/settings online such as those found at https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-cu34g2x/ to see if that may help out with the quality.
