I'll also put in a good word for the Lenovo laptops, they're my personal preference for recommendations. Depending on what you mean by decent storage capacity, we carry a lot of options that should suit your needs well. Only Intel laptops can be Intel Evo laptops, but not all of them meet those strict specifications. If you’re looking for a laptop that does everything well, features some of the latest hardware, and supports the latest technologies, then opting for an Intel Evo certified laptop can be a great way to guarantee you’re getting an excellent machine for your money. Dell XPS 13 Series Breakdown Dell’s XPS 13 laptops have been some of the best all-around laptops for years, and the current generation is no exception. The XPS 13 9310 2-in-1 is fully Intel Evo certified, meaning that it takes full advantage of Intel’s 11th-generation Tiger Lake processors with Xe graphics, supports Intel Wi-Fi 6 wireless networking, has Thunderbolt 4 ports for faster wired connectivity, and is designed to be instantly wakeable from sleep mode for fantastic responsiveness. At its heart, the XPS 13 9310 2-in-1 features an Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor with four cores and support for eight simultaneous threads. It can hit a maximum turbo frequency of 4.7GHz, making it blisteringly fast in productivity tasks like photo and video editing, or even in some light gaming thanks to the Xe onboard graphics. This isn’t a laptop that’s going to handle the latest AAA games with ease, but if you play older games, indie titles, or esports games, it’ll have no problem hitting high frame rates and maintaining a smooth gaming experience. Memory The base model for this design starts with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of solid state storage – more than enough for everyday Windows use, web browsing, streaming your favorite TV shows and movies, and light work. Alternatively, if you’re looking to do more intense work, enjoy web browsing with tens of tabs open at once, or want a machine that’s a little more future proof, there’s also an option with a more capable 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of SSD storage. That’s enough space for Windows, a handful of games, and plenty of added room for photos and videos. The top-spec version of the Dell XPS 13 9310 2-in-1 has the same CPU and GPU as its siblings, but it ups the memory capacity to 32GB and increases storage to a full terabyte of SSD space. That kind of configuration is best suited to those doing heavier photo and video editing, or working with extremely large databases in Office documents. Screens All of the displays on the Dell XPS 13 9310 are gorgeous, no matter which configuration you opt for, but there are a couple of choices to make on that front. The base model comes with a 13.4-inch 1,920 x 1,080 touchscreen display. It features gorgeous colors and an incredibly bright panel, so it’s rich and vibrant whether you’re watching a movie, playing games, or just browsing the web. However, the higher-end configurations upgrade the screen to something truly special. Those come fitted with a 3,840 x 2,400 touchscreen display – a super high resolution in such a compact screen size that delivers an exceptional picture. Combined with a high brightness of over 500 nits, and gorgeous coloring, and there are few laptops that look as good as the Dell XPS 13. Taking it truly over the top are the ultra-thin bezels on this laptop. Where many 2-in-1 designs opt for chunkier bezels to provide more grip room when in tablet mode, Dell opted for a laptop-first design that really makes the screen look edgeless. Battery Life  While high-end displays have in the past been a bit of a drain on battery life, part of the Intel Evo certification is guaranteeing a lengthy battery life of at least nine hours of everyday use. That comes from hardware choices, clever optimizations of screen brightness, keyboard backlighting, and component throttling, to make sure that you get consistent performance and a great-looking screen, without sacrificing battery life. Intel Evo laptops like this are also designed to charge fast, so even if the battery starts to run low, or you need to power it up quickly before you run somewhere, you can get yourself a few hours’ worth of power with a short charge cycle. Connections & Features When it comes to connecting to local networks or your favorite accessories, the Dell XPS 13 9310 comes with full support for Wi-Fi 5 and 6, so you can enjoy the fastest internet connection and local network transfer speeds. There’s no RJ45 Ethernet port, but you can always plug in an adapter to one of the laptop’s two Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports. Each of those offer the maximum 40Gbps of bandwidth, so whether you’re looking to use an Ethernet connection, run a high-end external display, plug in one or multiple super-fast external drives, you have plenty of throughputs to work with. There are only two of them, however, alongside a headphone jack, and microSD card reader, so if you want to plug in a number of wired accessories, it may be worth considering a Thunderbolt dock. Those can take full advantage of the massive bandwidth offered by a single Thunderbolt connection to offer multiple USB-A and USB-C connections over the same port. It can also expand your XPS 13’s connectivity options with Ethernet and external display connections, like HDMI and DisplayPort. Either of the Thunderbolt 4 ports can be used for charging too, so when it comes time to recharge the battery, you don’t necessarily have to unplug anything to get it juiced up again. Audio isn’t the best feature of the XPS 13 9310, but it’s not bad either. Although you’ll get the best sound by plugging in a pair of your favorite headphones, it still sports a pair of stereo speakers that are mounted near to the edge of the laptop. That makes sure that even if you have it on your lap or resting flush against a desk, you’ll still get decent volume and clarity. There’s some surprising bass in there if you’re listening to the right music, and even if you crank the volume up, the build quality of this laptop ensures that it won’t ring or rattle when the action gets going. Each of these laptops comes in Dell’s attractive platinum silver coloring, with a classic black outline for the bezels around the display, only enhancing their trim visage. The webcam, as has been the case for a few XPS 13 generations, is located back up to the top. It’s 720p, so you’ll get a great picture for conference calls and video chats with friends and family, and the dual-array microphones will ensure that everyone can hear you clearly. Portability As a modern ultrabook in every sense of the word, the Dell XPS 13 9310 tops off its combination of high performance, great battery life, and even better looks, with a highly portable design. It measures just 11.69-inches across and is only just over half an inch thick at its widest point. That makes it compatible with just about any laptop bag ever made, as well as making it easy to slip inside a backpack or messenger bag for ease of transportation. To make sure it doesn’t weigh you down when carried around all day too, this laptop weighs in at just 2.9 pounds. That’s not the lightest of laptops, as there are some that dip below the two-pound mark for ultimate portability, but it is pretty exceptional for a 2-in-1 with a standard fixed keyboard. It’s certainly light enough to use in tablet mode without getting fatigued Conclusion Overall, the XPS 13 9310 is an excellent example of what a modern ultrabook can be, and with its Intel Evo certification, it has met and exceeded all of the most important considerations for what most look for in a laptop. I've been using a Dell with Dell support - if I buy from Micro Center, I want to understand my support options. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook LandShark admin January 2021 Hello, @GO_DC I'd recommend a few different selections.  MAINGEAR Element 2-EL2 - 17"  HP ENVY 15-ep0035cl - 15.6" - Refurbished  MAINGEAR Element 3 - 17.3" One other recommendation would be the Dell XPS 13 9310 - 13.4" as a smaller option. However, it is not cheaper. The small form factor does come at a cost. As for device protection or support/repairs, we do offer several options. Dell has worked with me and managed to get it down to a few times a day, but it is random and crashed while I am teaching. The computer is unreliable. I am outside of my return window is it possible still to complete an exchange? Aster ✭ May 2021 edited June 2021 in Air and Liquid Cooling I have a brand new XPS 8940 with intel i7-10700 and GTX 1660 Super; 32 GB ram, SSD and an extra HDD. I immediately noticed that once launching any video game, the fans were very loud and GPU temps were well into 80s C, and after downloading Core Temp, I've discovered the CPU is fairing far worse, often hitting 90C. I'm a little new to PC builds/mods so take this part with some salt: Research told me the CPU fan that Dell put in with the non-K CPUs in the 8940 is in fact not very good, i.e. is tiny. Microcenter said not to try changing fans myself because it could void warranty, be that Microcenter's or Dell's, I'm not sure. Anyway, I don't know if I should stick with this machine and invest in fan/heatsink upgrades (if possible) or trade it in for something else. Some sources recommended different Noctua models. As these tend to have a pre like 2017 MB's that are mostly green are going to generally be one gen to old for a M.2  TLDR if you want M.2 you will need most likely a MB upgrade.  As to the Ram from what I"m seeing of YT reviews of an equivalent build. Most of the MB's in these PC's have dual channel RAM(These if they have to can also run just one stick of RAM.) The only problem is they are LIMITED however to just two Memory sticks.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In my honest opinion there are FAR better PC's that even you could PC game on for 800 dollars. And still get all the stuff you wanted as well get RGB. For what you would be spending on this pc. The PC your looking at is like scaping the bottom of the bucket.  Plus an i7-9700 is feels awkwardly thrown into this build to just inflate the price. I've reviewed the Dell 8500 manual and still cannot see what they might connect to. From what I can see, I'd recommend a Modular or Semi-modular PSU. Otherwise, I don't see what this would not work with this system. Another option would be a short form factor or SFX PSU. Check here. This would allow you more room in the case. You can select the specific cables that you need. Are you having issues with your new purchase? I'd be happy to assist you with them if that is the case. Could you point me to where you are seeing a recommended PSU of 700W for this system? I can assure you that the PSU in the system is capable of running this GPU and system safely. It is something that we have tested in our lab and from my understanding, it passed all of its tests. Also, NVIDIA lists the specs for their GPU on their website and lists that the 3060 only uses 170W. (The card in the left column is the 3060 Ti.) As you can see, both are pretty efficient GPUs considering the performance they give. I'd be happy to answer any other questions if you have them! Unfortunately due to how out of date the specs are I would recommend a complete rebuild. You would be able to reuse the case, fans, DVD drive and possibly the HDD. So you would need to get a new motherboard, processor, ram, power supply, and video card. If you bought the 630i with a top spec CPU back in the day, throwing a spankin' GPU in could still give you decent performance. Issues are you're stuck with USB 2.0, DDR2 ram, and a host of other slow relics. Personally, I'm doing an overhaul. I've replaced the enormous Dell ATX board with an ITX board I had lying around from an old build (bit weird to have a tiny board in that huge case but it looks kinda cool). Going with an i5 CPU, also from the previous build, and a GTX 480 GPU, which I also had lying around. These are all old tech but for my purposes (Skyrim, Skyrim, and more Skyrim), they'll do fine. If I had some extra cashish on hand, I'd upgrade the graphics card and get a modular PSU (even with the extra space from the board it's a snake den in there), but right now I can't afford it, and the egg-cooker 480 & oversized PSU should get me where I need to get. Can't get 4K on it, but I'm playing on Xbox 360 right now and the 480 will still be a huge step up. A few interesting things I've bumped into while building... The 630i uses a separate board for all the ports in the front (and some of the drives I think). I have no idea what kind of compatibility my non-Dell motherboard will have with this IO board, but we'll see. It connects to a USB port on the mobo, but I'm a little worried I'm going to fry the port or my whole board, which would be awful. The alternative is ditching the IO board and running everything in front directly to my mobo, but I don't have long enough cables at the moment and I'm very lazy. Also, there's more chassis fans in the case than my mobo supports. If the IO board works, it's moot since the extra fans connect there, but if not, well, it's not. I sort of doubt I need 3 enormous chassis fans though, especially the one for the HDD tray when I'm using an SSD and have taken out the HDD tray assembly. I'm definitely not going to be able to connect the firewire port to my mobo, but, then again, I don't own anything that uses firewire. Pour one out for firewire. It'd be cool to replace the 2 USB 2.0 ports in the front of the case with USB 3 ports, but we'll get to that when we get to it. I'm making a video of my ill-fated escapade with this franken-pc and I'll be posting it on my Youtube channel in the coming week. I was looking for a way to contact customer service directly, but I was unable to find one (or I accidentally overlooked it) so I'm posting here. Long story short, I purchased a Dell XPS 15 9500 laptop back in July and it had the dreaded faulty touchpad out of the box. Instead of saddling Microcenter with this issue by returning/exchanging the laptop, I chose to have Dell replace the touchpad; this was a mistake. Parts were backordered for nearly 6 weeks and then the technician damaged my laptop during the touchpad replacement. This became waiting another 5 weeks through the process of trying to get a replacement. Now, a full 3 months later I'm still fighting with Dell on trying to get a laptop that doesn't have issues as the replacement laptop has touchpad issues AND the screen won't stay closed properly and I'm truly at a loss. As an individual customer, I'm powerless against Dell's horrendous customer service, but perhaps as a partner Microcenter will have a little more leverage. This isn't Microcenter's fault, but I'm hoping that perhaps someone can help. If there is any way I can pay a restocking fee and purchase another laptop to get out of this horrible design flaw and QC nightmare, I would LOVE to be able to do that to continue supporting Microcenter and get away from Dell! 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Comments TSTDavey admin December 2020 Hello @Brian_T thanks for posting on the Microcenter Community Forum. Just an FYI, our tech support is at 800-490-5536. Sorry you are having these issues. If you purchase the Dell laptop from us in July its still under warranty. You can bring it to the store, either we can repair it under the warranty unless is deemed non repairable; then we'll give you store credit for the amount you paid for the laptop to purchase another laptop from us. The return/exchange period is usually 60 days. Obviously you are outside the return period, but you can bring the laptop the store and speak with a Manager. They may be able to work with you. If you'd like we can request for a Store Manager to call you. Looking for recommendations on which one of the two I should go with. There is only 1 Precision 5540 available in open box, so I need to figure it out quickly. I know the Precision 5540 has a better graphics card and more RAM, but I'm wanting to make sure I'm not overlooking anything on the XPS 9500 that could sway me that way. The NVIDIA Quadro T1000 is more set for professional workloads, however, both GPUs have 4GB of memory but the 5540 has more RAM and more SSD capacity. Since the GPUs are so similar, I'd recommend going with the other spec that you think you need. Personal preference would be to go with more storage and RAM. The CPU generation difference is minimal. Hardly anything changed between these two chips. Hope this input helped! After updating about 20 queued updates and BIOS twice, I gave up and put in my 20H2 flash drive and updated manually. Also had to update the RTX2060, as there's been 5 updates in the last 3+ months from Nvidia. Lotsa work on updates to get this machine up to date! My desktop purchased in December came with version 2004 and that was acceptable, as 20H2 was not released until Fall of 2020. The official specifications for the XPS 8940 are as follows:  •     CPU: Intel Core i7 11th Gen 11700. •     Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060Ti with 8GB GDDR6. •     Memory: 32GB DDR4-2933. •     Storage: 1TB SSD boot drive and a 1TB HDD storage drive. •     Operating system: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro. •     Optical drive: DVD Drive. •     Wired: 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet. •     Wireless: 2x2 Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650i, Bluetooth 5.1. The heart of the system is the Intel Core i7-11700 CPU. It's an eight-core, 16 thread processor with massive general compute and gaming performance. It might have a base clock of 2.5GHz, but it features a maximum turbo frequency of 4.9GHz, which guarantees stupendous performance when performing intense, sustained tasks, like gaming, video transcoding, and photo editing. This is the non-K, 11700, so you can’t manually overclock it, but this generation of processors does run a little warm, so that’s for the best in this case, and Intel’s own boost algorithms make manual overclocking much less important than it once was. The CPU cooling in the Dell XPS 8940 is more than good enough to keep it nice and cool throughout operation, ensuring that you get maximum performance whether you’re using your gaming PC for a few minutes or a few hours. It’s nice and quiet too, so if you prefer to play without headphones, you won’t have to listen to the whine of overspinning fans. This is no F-model processor, however, so it comes fully equipped with Intel’s 12th-generation integrated Xe graphics. That won’t find much use with the excellent dedicated 3060Ti GPU that this Dell gaming PC comes packed with, but it does mean that if you ever have to do some troubleshooting, or need to remove the GPU for whatever reason, you can still use the PC without difficulty. Just plug your monitor into the motherboard’s HDMI or DisplayPort outputs and away you go. The real gaming power of this PC comes from its graphics card, the Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti; one of the best value for money GPUs of its generation. It offers stellar performance that eclipses all but the best graphics cards of recent years, delivering fantastic performance in any game at 1080p, 1440p, and in older games, even 4K. If you do stick to 1080p, you can guarantee anywhere between 60 and 100 FPS in modern AAA games like Metro Exodus, Cyberpunk 2077, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. If you’re an esports player, you can expect far higher frame rates too, easily measuring in the hundreds. If you’ve been languishing on lower frame rates, that can make you more competitive, too. Higher frames mean lower input lag, and by cutting the input lag of your gaming PC, you can make yourself the best gamer you can be. If you prefer to play slower-paced, AAA games, you also have the option of turning on ray tracing in supporting titles. Like all GPUs, that can hit the frame rate, so make sure to consider using Nvidia’s deep learning super sampling too if it’s supported, to help keep frame rates high and smooth. The onboard wireless support with the XPS 8940 is excellent too. It has a built-in Killer 2x2 network interface, giving full support for Wi-Fi 6 for maximum speed and the lowest latency, even on busy networks. It also has the option of a wired Gigabit Ethernet connection, if you prefer the stability and reliability of a wired networking solution. Backing up those core components that deliver high performance is 32GB of fast memory. That’s more than any game needs, but with some of the latest ones demanding as much as 16GB, you can rest assured that no background tasks will take away from your game performance. It also gives you plenty if you like to do a lot of web browsing with many tabs open at once, or if you want to do some video editing when you’re not playing.  The terabyte of SSD storage gives you all the space you need for Windows and an expansive game library, making sure that the system boots fast and all your games load quickly. You don’t need to store all your photos and videos on that SSD, though, with a secondary 1TB hard drive giving you extra storage space, so your main drive can focus on games and any applications you want to be as responsive as possible.  The XPS 8940 is a stealth gaming PC, with a high-airflow, but understated chassis that is surprisingly small considering all of the power inside. Its black paint job and sleek exterior bely its gaming prowess, helping it fit into a home office, or alongside other electronics you already have in your home. The small footprint also makes it easy to fit it under or on top of desks where space is at a premium, and it’s lightweight enough, at just 18lbs, that if you need to move it around – or even take it with you to a LAN party -- it’s no hassle at all.  That same chassis comes with a great selection of front-facing ports, giving you quick and easy access to several USB-A ports, a USB-C port, and a headphone jack. There’s also an SD card reader for quickly and easily downloading photos or other data from standalone devices.  Although the hardware inside this PC is perfect for all sorts of games, there’s no denying that as desktop gaming PCs age, they don’t perform as well. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. I'm not doing any gaming. But then I got curious about building a PC, and came up with this list of components.  However, I really don't know much about this at all so I'm not sure how this all works together; I kind of just threw some things together based on quick Googling and some guesswork. Does anybody have an opinion on whether the PC I put together compares favorably to the Dell that I linked above? Also, part of what I liked about the Dell was the small size of the case, but I didn't see a similar sized case available in the PC Build options. Any ideas about that? I think what you have is good as far as your list of components for your build. The only thing we'd recommend is to go with a micro-atx motherboard to match your case and not the mini-atx. Some good micro-atx boards are the Asrock z490M or the MSI B460M. Both support the I9-10850K intel processor. Also you'll have to look at another cost for if you want Microcenter to build your pc. Its $149.99 for Microcenter to build a pc with these parts, so thats another expense. You'll also have to look at costs for a mouse, keyboard, monitor and desktop speakers if your monitor doesn't have speakers. This could add up to your total of $1380 -$1400 plus, especially if you have Microcenter build it. If you're going to build it yourself, then cut out the $149.99. If you've never build a pc before, it is an experience and a great learn, but you'll run into some challenges with building it as your first time. If its your first time and you have patience to work on it, then we'd recommend to try to build it yourself. There's no advantage over the other from a "pc that meets my needs" perspective. It looks like your system can support a 9.5 inch graphics card, so anything around that size or smaller should fit. As stated by @Dains_zoo, it's extremely important to make sure you have the power overhead to support a faster GPU. Luckily most modern GPU's are more efficient and should draw less power than what you are likely using, but it's best to be safe and determine your PSU limitations first before we make any recommendations. Looks to be a 460W PSU: With that in mind, I would strongly advise against going with anything higher than an RTX 2060, and even that might be pushing it. A GTX 1660 Super would be a safe bet.
