My initial motivation for building this PC two years ago was the anticipated release of Microsoft Flight Simulator. I had been playing other simulators for many years before then and wanted an upgrade for the new intense game. I've been wanting an upgrade from my Dell Optiplex retrofitted with a GTX 1050 Ti for a while, but this pushed me to actually go ahead and do it. I still play Microsoft Flight Simulator to this day, but most of my time on this machine has shifted to software engineering and, incidentally, developing addons for the simulator. I am a computer science student and use this computer to compile Rust libraries, run simulations in Python, and develop websites. A year after getting this computer, I replaced the stock heat sink on my RTX 2080 Super with an NZXT Kraken, and it was totally worth it as I haven't had any problems with thermals since then and the computer is pretty darn quiet. The only upgrade that I see myself making in the foreseeable future is a kit of custom white cables along with a modular PSU to replace the horrendous ketchup and mustard powering the rig.$1,732.91 -

I use a 34 inch mounted above my 27 inch monitor and mainly play valorant after work. This is my second build I've ever done and wish I didn't cheap out on everything the first time around. Looking back I would get a nicer mobo and CPU.$2,484.88 -

This is my third ever build, I purchased all the parts at the end of May this year and assembled all at once. While I know the machine is overkill for what I use it for and so many look better this was my dream PC and it feels so damned good using this beast! The reason I went all out for this build compared to my previous system (R7 3800x 2070 super) was I lost my Mother unexpectedly in May last year, I received a small amount of inheritance exactly one year after she passed and felt this would be the best way to immortalise my best friend. My first ever gaming PC was a Dell prebuilt with a 7600GS and a core 2 duo I belive, she bought me this when I was fourteen, even before this she encouraged my love of computers with a second hand commodore 64. Miss you!$9,188.90 -

Last year(2021) I finally made the plunge for an entire overhaul. Bought new and sold the old components and this was the result! Wanted a machine that could handle any game I threw at it on max settings and the power to record and stream gameplay with little to no compromise.$3,235.86 -

For general usage, some gaming. I wish I had more games to play but most modern games are either absolute trash that isn't worth playing or indies that are worth playing but don't require much in the terms of power. The 3900XT I got on sale after the 5000 series came out, works well, cooled by a Noctua NH D15. Should I have waited to get a 5950X? Maybe, but I don't need that much. 32GB of ram, surprisngly I regularly use around 24GB of it so I'm glad I went over the 16GB I usually default to. The motherboard is alright, it works. The 5700XT has to be the centerpiece, I replaced the original cooler with a Raijintek Morpheus II and two Noctua fans. Never goes below 55c even during full load and is always silent. A much better experience compared to when the fan bearings were worn to the point of buzzing from casual mining for a few years. Despite the drama surrounding crypto this 5700XT has heated my room during the winter and put food onto the table for the past two years. Can't complain about that. The PSU I'm glad I went a little overkill initially. When I got this I had a Ryzen 5 1400 and an RX560, something that could probably be powered by a 450W unit. However now it's still got plenty of extra for further upgrades. The case is a Corsair 275Q. It's not very quiet and difficult to work in. I would have rather bought a quality test bench with this money. I need lots of hard drive space.$1,860.89 -

After many hours in Elden Ring, Cyberpunk and Control, I am very happy with this build. For my purposes I probably went a little bit overboard, but I really wanted a build that was capable of playing anything I throw at it. This was my first build, and in hindsight I wish that I had done more research about thermals. My initial setup included a 360mm AIO in the front of the case, which significantly impacted the temp of my GPU. After much consideration, I transitioned to a top mounted 240mm AIO. GPU temps dropped by 12 degrees at full load.$3,424.91
