It's an iterative upgrade that moves it from 2nd Gen Ryzen to 3rd Gen, and from the B450 to B550 chipset. I also recently switched from air cooling to a liquid AIO. It's primarily a gaming rig, but I also use it for work (spreadsheets, website updating, Outlook, video conferencing, etc.), recording a podcast, and lightweight video editing. Games I play: • Celeste • Destiny 2 • Divinity: Original Sin 2 • Dragon Age Inquisition • Doom Eternal • Horizon Zero Dawn • The Mass Effect Trilogy • Metro Exodus • NieR:Automata • Shadow of the Tomb Raider • Starcraft II • Titanfall 2 • Transistor • The Witcher 3 In the future, I think I'd like to add a custom backplate for my GPU, In the distant/pipedream future, I'd like to put a custom loop in this build.

I bought all of the parts in the Westmost Microcenter. I built the PC mainly for gaming, and day to day use. Some examples of games I play are CS:GO, City Skylines, Warzone, and GTA. I feel like gaming really gives you a chance to connect with people who have the same hobbies and interests as you. Some upgrades I plan on doing in the future are some custom cables to go with my color scheme (Ones in my case right now were taken from another build), Vertical GPU Bracket, and probably upgrading components as they get outdated.

This is my first PC build, which was a personal challenge I have wanted to tackle for over a decade. This build also marks the beginning of my transition out of the Apple computer ecosystem. For the past decade I have been a Macintosh user, but I noticed that the more I used Windows 10 the easier it became to look for new horizons. I built this PC partially for my occupation as a software developer, but also for gaming when I'm off the clock. Needless to say, I spend the majority of my day using it for work and play. Prior to this build I was solely a Nintendo Switch gamer, and now I have the power to play all the triple A games I was missing out on. My proclivity for Nintendo games is still alive and well, as I discovered a new hobby in emulating my favorite games with upscaled graphics on my machine. I am very happy with my PC, the whole process has sparked a new hobby for me in ways I never expected. In the future I plan to get a corsair keyboard to match my mouse, a 144hz 2k ROG monitor, and also upgrade the graphics card as we get closer to Cyberpunk's launch.

So, we started this project. After a lot of manual reading and watching a lot of YouTube Videos we built this system in a couple of hours with no issues. A month later we decided to add the RGB fans and more memory since we downloaded so many games. We also got a nice LG 27GL850 with 1440p and 144Hz. We did a lot of search together and have been fun since then. Except for the fighting on who's turn is it. it is fun..

The old computer that I used mainly for gaming decided to break on me so in order to get replacement parts I would've had to wait 2 weeks for Amazon to restock. I checked the Microcenter website and realized they had everything in stock and even had some better prices. The nearest Microcenter to me was four hours away at the Marietta location in Atlanta (btw we need a Microcenter in Nashville, thanks). I figured a day trip was better than having to wait on Amazon. Since my old pc was lacking a little anyway I decided to get a big upgrade, Ryzen 3700x with an RTX 2070 Super, by far the most I've spent on a PC upgrade. I decided to go all out and try for some nice RGB, in hindsight I wish I mounted the RGB fans at the top instead of the front as I didn't realize the Lian Li LanCool 2 already had RGB on the front. This case was a dream to build in by the way and made cable management very easy. While my adventure to the great Mecca that is Microcenter was long, it was indeed worth every hour on the road. Huge shoutout to my dad for dropping everything to go with me, made for a fun trip.

I have plans to vertical mount the GPU, upgrade my RAM to 32GB @ 3600Mhz, add custom PSU cables, and upgrade my 240mm AIO to a 280MM AIO. So far, the main use of this machine is folding@home, relatively light gaming (if you can call NFS Heat on Ultra details @ 1080P light....) and media consumption.

My first build was i7-6700 (Gigabit Motherboard - don't remember which one) with 250GB SSD and 1TB Hard Drive (7200 RPM). Video Card was an ASUS Nvidia GT745 in a Corsair Medium Tower. Unfortunately, my 1TB hard drive was down to 30 GB when I got back from a trip to Germany and Windows 7 support was done. I bought a 4TB Hard drive and 500 GB SSD and was going to replace the drives in the Intel build when I decided to build a new computer instead to avoid losing the other data. Went to Microcenter in Fairfax VA, and he suggested a AMD Ryzen 7 instead of Intel i7. Price point - very good. Then he sold me the case- Lian Li LiCool II. REALLY good move I later learned. Brought home the gear and put it aside until I had time to build it. Well...COVID closed everything down and I decided to build it to get my mind being stuck in my house. Loved it. It was a great little build, and I was able to upload my photos and purge my old drives. I also updated the First build with the same 500GB SSD and 4TB Hard Drive so I got the old computer working well in Windows 10. My only "complaint": my ASUS Nvidia GT1030 was just underpowered. I was only able to use two monitors and I wanted a three-monitor option. I was not in a hurry to buy a new one, but I was looking for video cards that could handle three or four monitors. A few months later, I watched a video from JayzTwoCents ("Is NVIDIA even trying anymore" - April 25, 2019) when he was reviewing the GT1650. For some reason hecompared it to an PowerColor AMD RX570 Radeon Red Devil 4GDDR. Reason: it was CHEAPER than the GT1650. When I saw the RX570 price ($139.99 vs $80 for the GT1030), my jaw dropped to the ground. When I checked Microcenter, they had that very card on sale for $139.99. Bought it online on the spot and picked it up that day. I replaced the GT1030 and LOVE the new card. I don't even play games!
