I hadn't taken the opportunity to build my own PC in a very long time so this was my first attempt. Overall I'm really happy with the build. My goal was to build a solid gaming PC that was somewhat future proof. Since I work in Information Systems I also wanted this system to be able to handle running multiple VMs simultaneously so I could have a little virtual lab of networked computers and practice some things I've been meaning to learn like database management, some light coding, etc. For games I currently have Skyrim, Civilization V and VI, Smite, Spellbreak, Fortnite and Baldur's Gate 3 (just downloaded, haven't fired it up yet), even the Gauntlet remake because I love a classic. With this build I have a code to get Assassin's Creed Valhalla when it drops so I'm looking forward to that. Also it is my preferred genre for gaming. The GPU is a placeholder so I wanted something decent but inexpensive until I could fully digest the benchmarks for the nVidia 30x and ATi cards coming out soon. I plan to upgrade it in a few months and either keep the RX 580 for another build for my kids or post it on ebay. Featured in the desk photo is a Samsung 32" Smart TV. I didn't include it in the parts list becuase I didn't buy it for this build and only decided to connect it as a third monitor because YouTube performs much better from the PC than trying to stream it directly on the TV. Other peripherals I own prior to this build but added them to the parts list are the HP 27f monitor, keyboard, and mouse. The desk is an IKEA Karlby, walnut 74" countertop (because it's completely solid unlike their desktops) with 8 Capita legs sitting on top of the Klimpen drawer unit and Klimpen bookshelf (they call it a table leg with storage). Forgive the atrocious photo edit job, it isn't my forte. I used Gimp. Lessons learned, I made a snap judgement on the PSU when I realized mine had sold out before it could be pulled for my order. I also need to work on cable management.

I build this machine part for part over the past 4 months to upgrade from my 6-year-old machine running an AMD FX-6350 (3-core/6-hyperthread) to a more powerful gaming and content creation machine to suit my needs. I joke with people that it all started with the case and it snowballed from there. When the build was said and done, only two components remained from my old build: the 1TB SSD that my OS is on and the power supply. Not all of the parts were available from Micro Center, but most of the ones in the shot were purchased from there. I needed a system that can play a lot of flight and space simulation games such as Ace Combat 7 and Battlestar Galactica Deadlock as well as Space MMOs like EVE Online and Star Trek Online. I play other casual games and this system doesn't break a sweat. Most of my content creation involves writing and illustrations found on my website www.burchbowserprojects.com and technokoopa.deviantart.com and this system barely flinches on those tasks. I also wanted something with RGB to reflect by personality and growing computer hardware experience. The only thing that I would have done differently was purchase a Radeon RX 5500XT or newer. For those wondering why Radeon, I tend to use Linux systems at time on this machine and Radeon has better open source drivers over NVIDIA's proprietary drivers. Also, when I purchased the MSI Armor RX 580, I still had my old motherboard and processor, and a newer GDDR6 with PCIe Gen 4 would not have been supported. The RX 580 is still more than capable of playing all of my games on my 1080p screen, so for now, there is no need to replace it when I have had it for at least 2 months at the time of this submission.

The purpose on why I built this PC/Setup, was because I needed something to use for school especially because of the virus that going on in the air. I also built it so that I could just have my own space in the house that I could relax in. Games I usually play are, Rainbow Six Siege, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Fall Guys, and Counter Strike. I can usually run two things at once with the help of the two Asus Monitors that I use. I usually have discord on monitor 1 and my game running on monitor 2. This setup is also great for watching things like Netflix or YouTube. I have flags that separate down the part of the basement where I have my so called man cave. Not to mention I have to have a 50 foot Ethernet cord that runs from the computer to a storage room that's also in the basement, and from there it runs up through the ceiling directing into the internet router of the house. I love detail and that's why i have so many things on my walls surrounding the setup just so it does not look so empty. Using things like flags, picture frames, basketball jerseys, scarves, hand drawn Mario, and my favorite, a diamond sword.

In 2008 I graduated from college with a degree in Information Systems and Science. Around that time every family and friend would call me with all computer and electronic needs (lol). However during that time I was not well educated about the insides of computer and thought the best way to help would be to build a desktop PC myself. Around 2012 after doing some research I finally started building my own PC which has become the main talking point when someone enters my home. There are two questions that come every time someone sees it 1) Are you Batman? 2) Are you doing security for the entire block? The PC has many of the original parts from when I built it in 2012 except the graphics card. I originally had XFX Radeon HD 7970 3GB graphics card to help power the PC and display on the six monitors but the card died on me a year ago. I now have a Radeon RX 580 GPU (supporting up to five monitors) and use the last monitor to connect my work laptop to for dual monitor support. The build has a Samsung 830 series 256GB solid state drive, three 2TB internal hard drives, ASUS Rampage IV Extreme Intel motherboard, an Intel i7-3930K six-core processor, G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB DDR3 ram all powered by a CORSAIR AX1200 power block and cooled by a CORSIAR H100 liquid CPU Cooler (and several fans). This is all housed in CORSAIR Bosidian Series 800D tower while using a Razer BlackWidow Ultimate keyboard and Cyborg R.A.T 7 mouse. This was probably overkill for someone who just wanted to learn and build their own PC but the setup allowed me to multi-task tremendously while studying for my MBA, allow to play some games with level graphics (StarCraft being one of my favorites) but most importantly offer suggestions and guidance for friends who also wish to build their own PC. Overall the learning experience was great and to talk about the PC to this day while only changing the graphics card is amazing.

This was built for my son for light gaming duty during this stay at home time. He is currently playing Sea of Thieves and Minecraft. We raided our PS4 to get an SSD for this build which allowed us to save a bit which we put back into getting a better power supply. We don't have any future upgrades planned to the desktop itself as of this time. My son is pretty happy with it. We might add a monitor as right now it's connected to a 1080p 37" TV. No complaints from my son but I think that area can get better. Other than that, I know he'd like a proper desk and a nice chair.
