So I finally made up my mind to upgrade my desktop after 5 years. Since the GTX 1080 is still in good condition and honestly can still run a lot of games smoothly, I've decided to just upgrade other components for now and wait for the 5080 (depends on my need)$824.96 -

My highschool had a two week course where we could learn and build our own computers, we had a budget of 500$ and the choice to add extra from our own money. This is my first build and I am very happy with how it turned out. Using our budgets, I bought the 400$ bundle at Micro Center that contained, Intel Core i9 12900K, ASUS Prime Z790-V WIFI motherboard, and the G.skill Ripjaw 32 Gb 2 x 16 ram. Additionally, I got a PowerSpec PS 650GSM 650 W power supply, a DeepCool AG400, and a Seagate Laptop Thin 500 GB 7200RPM SATA 6 GB/s 32 MB Cache 2.5 Inch Hard Disk Drive. Using my own money, I bought a Inland X1 black case, two Inland TN320 NVMe M.2 storage SSD's, and a Nvidia RTX 3050. I am very thankful I took this course and I am very content with how my PC turned out, it runs most games I play at high to max graphics (I mostly play RTS such as Men of War or Total War games). The total cost of this build was roughly 800$ USD with me paying around 270$ from my own pocket.$1,122.93 -

I built this pc over time carefully selecting parts to use temporarily in my atx case until I could buy an SFF one. I joined a fantastic and helpful discord community who helped me along the way. I love how it's going so far! Planning on an new Ncase. Maybe the Streacom F1 or to be announced Mach 3. I still have a 970, but looking to upgrade very soon. The 13700k is a beast. This build originally started as a video editing machine so if you’re interested you can check out my channel @brownhansolo. I mostly use it just to put up my school projects and such but I have recently started putting up more personal short films. Once I built it though I got into gaming pretty quickly and I’m having a lot of fun playing halo mostly but also some valorant. I absolutely want to go with custom water cooling within the next couple of months but I think before I do I want to change the case to an nzxt H9, this case is a little small for that at the moment. I changed the theme pretty often at first but I think I’ve settled on this one that was inspired by namor from wakanda forever as you can see from the pops. Those cable combs you see should be gold but the blue lights make that hard to see.$1,476.92 -

After years of looking at people posting their builds on Reddit and here I finally decided to attempt a build myself. At the time I built this Microcenter was having a sale (bundle on CPU, MOBO, and RAM) so thought why not. My budget was 1500 and the bundle helped me save about 300. I mostly play MMORPGs, so that's what this build is used for (Archeage, D4, etc). I play a wide variety of single player games and like games with nice graphics so they are often demanding. Recent games I played include Horizon Zero Dawn, Plague Tale Requiem, and Witcher 3. I play on a 1440p high refresh rate monitor and the 6900 XT has had no trouble delivering 100+ for basically every game I played. It was a nice upgrade over my RTX 3070 although I do miss some of the Nvidia features like DLSS. The 6900 XT is a lot faster though and has 16 GB of VRAM. It even does pretty well in ray traced games. The 13700k is a really powerful CPU probably even overkill for gaming. However it wasn't much more than the 13600k and is helpful on the rare occasions I do rendering or certain data analytics that can utilize a lot of cores/threads. I also really like the Lian LI 205 mesh case I was able to get open box at Micro Center. The RGB fans are nice and it has great airflow. I also like that its not too large, but still able to fit most GPUs. Most of the other parts are standard although I do wish I waited before getting a 4 TB SSD. Prices are much lower now than they were last year.$1,627.96 -

With starfield coming out I wanted to get a new build for it since I hadn't really upgraded in many years as my old build had only 16GB of RAM (that was a lot when I built it) and a 1660 Super. He wanted something fairly powerful and can handle FPS games in 2K resolution. He also wanted it to be a small footprint PC, so he can move it around, so I decided to build him a pc in mini-ITX case. I primarily wanted my desktop to take up as small a space as possible and found building out of the NR200 case to be very satisfying. 7900 XT plays anything thrown at it - blew through Starfield at max settings. Highly recommend undervolting the GPU to save thermals. A less power hungry CPU would be even better to reduce heat. As much as I like the SFX-L Asus Loki PSU I chose, I recommend an SFX to gain GPU clearance. Highly advise against an ATX PSU as airflow becomes very difficult to manage. I would also recommend a shorter cooler than the Noctua NH-D15 as I had to force the mesh side panel closed.$2,345.89 -

Regardless, those are my honest reasons of why I built this. This machine functions as and replaces my primary gaming desktop pc. I mostly play fps games such as Doom Eternal.
