Sure, there were a handful of small computer shops scattered around, each offering a mishmash of components, but none could compare to the tech haven that is Microcenter. My journey into the world of building PCs began amidst these humble surroundings. Armed with determination and a modest budget, I scoured the shelves of these local stores, piecing together my first rig. It wasn't perfect, but it was mine—a testament to my budding passion for all things tech. As I tinkered with my creation, learning the ins and outs of hardware assembly, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more out there, something beyond the limitations of my small town's offerings. That something turned out to be Microcenter. The first time I set foot in that gleaming megastore, I felt like a kid in a candy shop. Row upon row of pristine components stretched out before me, gleaming under the fluorescent lights. It was a paradise for any PC enthusiast, with shelves stocked high with the latest processors, graphics cards, and peripherals. But it wasn't just the sheer variety of products that captivated me—it was the expertise of the staff. Unlike the often clueless employees at the local shops, the Microcenter team were true professionals, eager to share their knowledge and offer advice on even the most obscure tech questions. Armed with the resources of Microcenter and the guidance of its knowledgeable staff, I embarked on my next build with newfound confidence. Gone were the days of settling for "okay" parts; now, I had access to the best of the best. With their help, I carefully selected each component, ensuring that my new rig would be a masterpiece of performance and reliability. As I sat back and admired my completed build, I couldn't help but marvel at how far I'd come. From humble beginnings in those small-town computer shops to the pinnacle of PC building excellence at Microcenter, my journey had been nothing short of extraordinary. And as I powered up my new rig for the first time, I knew that the best was yet to come. There aren't too many games I play with being on my college's Rocket League roster. I am also a content creator on Twitch and am going to school to be a content creator for my college. When I am not gaming, I am using this computer as my computer, whether it is doing school work, watching YouTube or twitch, or just surfing the web. As for upgrades, I would definitely upgrade my GPU when I get the chance and money. When I went to get my parts, back in late October 2020, my GPU of choice, NVidia GeForce RTX 2070, was out of stock, so I went with AMD Radeon 5700 XT. After years of running a completely enclosed case with no rgb whatsoever, I decided that I was going to go all out on my next build. I play a variety of games, but my favorites are RPGs, Sci-Fi, and FPS. My main rotation right now is Destiny 2, Doom Eternal, The Witcher 3, and Red Dead Redemption 2. I decided that I wanted to upgrade everything about my pc for the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 game. I have been patiently waiting for years for this game, and with the release of the 30 series RTX graphics cards it seemed as though the stars had aligned. I started planning this build in February when rumors of the 30 series cards began to circulate. Little did I know that the world would soon descend into chaos, with massive lockdowns and shortages on electronics. On top of that, I work in the radio-pharmaceuticals industry, and was deemed an essential employee. I found myself working 12-16 hour shifts due to staff shortages, and each night I would come home and check the online stores to see if any of my pc parts were available. Slowly but surely, parts began to trickle in, and I began assembly in August. I was methodical in my building process, routing each cable to its destination, bundling and unbundling cables as I added more components. I wanted the pc to be an extension of myself, to stand out and show the hard work and love that I'd put into its creation. As it neared completion, it dawned on me that I had, in a way, embraced the cyberpunk lifestyle. Man and machine, working into the early morning hours, tinkering and improving, making sure everything is perfect. And so, the build is now complete. The only component that was reused was my EVGA 2070 Super, but I'm still hopeful that I can get my hands on a 3080 before the release of Cyberpunk 2077.$2,791.84 -

Just finished Death Stranding on a new monitor with 144hz, amazing game. I added a lego tower at the end of my GPU to stop the uneven sag, and the lego figures are keeping a watch on things. So I've been gaming pretty much all my life. Back in 2014 I got my first proper gaming PC. Then it was just low end, bought... So I've been gaming pretty much all my life. Since then I've been pretty hooked into PC gaming as a whole. Previously I had a gaming laptop so going from laptop to desktop was a huge change, so big I wondered how on earth I was using a laptop for so many years. Fast forward 2019. I've now graduated from college, got a job, and have money for once in my life. I'm still all the time following youtubers like LinusTechTips and whatnot and always just following the latest tech, always seeing glamorous PC builds. From watching those videos everyday for years, I always wanted to feel the awesomeness of a proper high end build. So it was a dream of mine to build something that would be a gaming beast and a huge upgrade from my previous build as well. I wanted to go pretty much all out, no compromises but within a reasonable budget as I'm just not loaded with cash. I had to save up for this for well over a year. I started buying things slowly overtime with all my peripherals like my keyboard, mouse, chair, table, and stuff. Last piece was going to be the main PC itself and monitor upgrade. I bought things with the idea in my head, one and done. Like if I buy this, I'm not going to want to replace it at all. It was exactly what I would have wanted in my dream scenario. Then came time where I was ready to buy, and Ryzen 3000 was about to launch. I've been doing months of just looking at PC parts and watching youtube reviews of every part so I knew exactly what I would want. I've been watching many build videos, even bought PC Building Simulator so I can practice building since I didn't want to have someone else build my pc for me. I went to Microcenter right on launch day, July 7th and bought myself a Ryzen 3900X, with a brand new x570 motherboard, fancy new pcei gen 4.0 5gb/s m.2 ssd. I got the works, then two days later I picked up the brand new RTX 2070 Super on launch day and got the monitor to go along with it. Certainly can't afford a 2080ti but that gpu was powerful enough and at a good price point where it wasn't terrible performance per dollar. I didn't go overkill with any part of this PC, everything I use 100% to the fullest. I game almost everyday on it. I like to stream as well on occasion. I want to make youtube videos on it. I use it for school and work. This thing just flies through everything I throw at it. I love it. Any changes I would make to the build would simply be adding another 16gb of ram to it. I'm for sure going to buy the new RTX 3080 and plug that into my PC. I'll eventually add in another m.2 ssd eventually and one that'll be even faster. I also wish to add in a good standard ssd as well, my current standard ssd in it is unfortanetly dramless which I didn't really know about at the time, and I feel like when running games on that it acts not as well as an ssd should. I wish that my cpu cooler and the fans with it would sync up with my other devices, also my mouse and speakers so it would be all one light sync.$4,637.79 -

I usually play eSports titles like CS:GO and Rocket League, as well as COD:MW, and of course some single player games like the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and looking forward to new releases like Cyberpunk 2077. My PC and internet connection are able to handle 1080p/60fps streams on Twitch, but I only stream occasionally or when my friends and I are doing a long gaming session. Obviously, my theme with the PC has been a black and white theme. I am a big Star Wars fan and it only made sense to throw in a bobblehead First Order Stormtrooper. I also added in the mini AE86 license plate because I was always a huge fan of the Trueno AE86 from Initial D, and now I own the newer Toyota 86, with a white and black look, so it add more of my personality to the build. If there was something that I would change about my PC would probably be the case. The S340 Elite has served me well, but I have been on the look out for a case worthy enough for the upgrade. So when the Lian Li Lancool II and mesh versions came out, I saw the great review and even better I could easily keep the same look. As you can see, my PC is already doing everything that I need and I have no complaints. So why did I enter the PC Showcase contest? Well, I have a friend, who will remain nameless, who has been live streaming and doing video edits for his YouTube channel on an FX processor and a GTX 970. My friends and I have been saving up money to surprise him with a new build for his birthday, which is coming up soon. (hopefully he doesn't see this so it can remain a surprise) So that is why I have entered this contest, so that hopefully my friends and I, can get more help in building a PC that would be a HUGE upgrade for him. If I do end up making it into the top 5, I want to thank Micro Center for giving me the chance of winning. Regardless on if I win, I plan on putting a simple video together on my Youtube channel that will have my friends reaction to the new PC we are able to afford getting him. With this build, I wanted to upgrade more on the internal parts as well as my monitor to give myself a great computer that would run everything I needed. However, I did not upgrade the CPU to a high-end processor or the video card as I built it around a budget as well as what would satisfy my needs. However, my upgrade itch did cause me to expand from one regular monitor to three 27” MSI curved gaming monitors. In addition, since it was a gaming machine, I wanted to add some flair with RGB, so I did incorporate that into the build. Currently, I am using it to play World of Warcraft, Skyrim, PUBG and Star Citizen (Beta). So far, this machine has run everything I have thrown at it and has met every expectation I wanted.$3,678.98 -

I built this computer to play RTX games like Control, other third person action games, FPS games of all kinds, and those "walking simulators" like Firewatch and What Remains of Edith Finch. I LOVE a great game story. I mostly play PC games like Destiny 2 and Deliver us the Moon... as well as fun VR games like Half-Life: Alyx & Beat Saber. I also love to stream with my family with games like Davigo VR, Fall Guys, Minecraft, Overwatch, Fortnite, Splitgate, Among Us, and others! Our Twitch channel is BurtonFamGaming. This rig is a gaming, VR, streaming PC... mostly for me (Dad), but also for the whole family (only... with Dad's permission of course. Only I have the password) :-D If I could go back, I might have waited a few months so I could purchase a 3080... but oh well. :-) I researched this for most of quarantine before finally building it about 4 weeks ago... so frankly, there's not much I would change about how I built it. The ONLY thing I wish I had done was perhaps get an X570 board or the ROG Strix B550-E so I'd get that Gen 2 Type C front header. I also plan to upgrade to 32 gigs of ram before long... but besides that, I'm really happy with it!$1,494.91 -

I have had a passion for computer building for a few years now thanks to Youtubers like Jayztwocents, Bitwit, Paul's Hardware, Linus Sebastian from LTT. With this build I focused on price per performance at the start and over a year switched out parts and upgraded where I felt like a needed improvement to get where I am now with my rig. I also did the best I could with cable management to make it look as clean as I possibly can. the last and only upgrades I want for my build is two 140mm fans for my front intakes to even out the air flow within my case. I'm not a big fan of RGB and because I can never do thing the easy way, I decided to do a custom case mod. So I built a Honduran mohogany desk that also acts as the case for the pc. Honduran Mahogany is the most stable wood you can use for furniture from an expansion and stability standpoint. Currently as it stands now, I haven’t oiled it yet, which will come when soon. It’s only version one and because I’m obsessive, I’m going to likely be working on another very soon to make it even better. I’ve got through 4 desks in the past 2 years and after the first 3 just decided I had to do it myself. I also host an Apache web server on Ubuntu server on a separate machine, so v2 of this desk will a dual or triple motherboard configuration, much cleaner, and water cooled so I can allow for much lower clearance configurations. It took me many many hours of work and many late nights because my shop is 2 hours away so I have to maximize the time I spend there! I’m a professional consultant for big home projects during my day job, and it was nice to take some of that energy and put it into my own home project, which is something I don’t always get the chance to do. I originally was not going to build a new PC. But given current scenario of our country I needed to have a space to work from home and my son needed a computer to do his school work from home. I work in I.T. and mostly deal with remote support now, and I am a Jamf administrator and in control of devices for over 17,000 staff and students at my place of employment. While I was parting out my sons "budget" build for school work and gaming, it became apparent a lot of 'budget' parts had shot up in price, so I made the decision to just build myself a new flagship, and give him my previous 7700k build. The only thing I wish I could have done differently was buy a 2080 Super, but they haven't been in stock for a couple weeks at my local store.$2,356.90 -

Hi all, I built this rig as an upgrade from my classic i5 4690k and GTX 970 starter build and the experience has been a lot... Hi all, I built this rig as an upgrade from my classic i5 4690k and GTX 970 starter build and the experience has been a lot of fun. It started off as a GPU upgrade for my old build, but after some pretty bad CPU bottlenecking in Forza Horizon 4, Warzone, and Red Dead 2, I went ahead and overhauled the rest of the system. I hadn't actually planned to do a water cooled build, but I picked up the cooler master AIO second hand for $50 and then after some abysmal GPU temps under load (~85C) I decided to look into water cooling the GPU. I was able to get the Kraken G12 bracket from Microcenter for only $20 and then I snagged an EVGA CLC 120mm AIO from their B-Stock page for a whopping $30. From there I began my first custom mod of mounting the water cooler to my EVGA RTX 2070. Allegedly the Kraken G12 is incompatible with the 2070, but to my pleasant surprise the AMD mounting arms worked perfectly and I didn't even have to cut or drill anything. Now I'm able to get a solid 2070MHz clock speed and my temps cap out at 55C. Ideally I'd like to get a 240mm or 280mm AIO to put on the GPU to try and push the temp lower core clock higher, but there's no room in my current case. I did splurge a little bit in some places, like the motherboard (could've got a B450 Tomahawk instead) and sleeved cables, but they only set me back about $75 so I'd say its worth it. Otherwise every component of this build was either purchased at a significant discount or in used condition to save money. All together I was able to assemble this build for right around $1000 which I'm pretty happy with :) In hindsight I wish I'd spend a little bit more on the GPU and gone for a refurb 1080ti or maybe a 2080, but the 2070 sets me up for a good 1440p 144Hz experience. In the future I really want to change the case to an O11 Dynamic and install a larger radiator for the GPU, but for now my little waterbox is all I need.$1,177.76 -

It all started in December 2018 - A conversation struck between a co-worker and I about what games we enjoy. He was persistent to encourage me to build a computer for myself and to get away from console gaming. Honestly I was actually considering buying a pre-built rig. January 2019 - I had been discussing the idea of buying a computer with a long-time friend who ensured to me that building a computer of your own is much easier than it seems and that it just takes time. Properly encouraged, I went out to Canada Computers and purchased an ATX DeepCool case for just under $100. That was the start of an experience that I would suggest to anyone who is interested, but thinks it would be difficult, to dive into the hobby and research as much as possible. It can be quite fun actually. That same month another friend of mine was encouraged to build a PC of his own and in the span of about a year we were able to put together each of our own custom rigs with a GTX 1070. January - April 2019 - I temporarily used my friend's components to play games as he was unable to have them at his house. I got used to the world of PC gaming as I did previously own a PC my parents had bought me back in 2003. Halo: CE was the game of choice. April 2019 - I had my friend's motherboard in my ATX case as I was unable to afford to progress at the time. Talk about bad timing for trying to build a PC. A week later he found his own case online for cheap and we transferred the guts over. Near the end of April 2019 - I was hired at a new job that allowed me to buy my remaining components one by one. As soon as everything was in my hands I went to my long-time friend's place and we put everything together! Ill admit, with a few issues. Thanks to the advice of Linus, Bitwit, JayzTwoCents & so many others, the build posted without any concerns. I was extremely excited to finally be able to join the PC Master Race family with my very own build and I have been slowly upgrading here and there ever since. June 2020 - I was able to pick up some white cables to replace the stock black cables. July 2020 - I invested into an MSI GeForce RTX 2070 Super even though I am aware the prices might be fluctuating in anticipation of the 3000 series cards. After a solid month of research and Microcenter’s pc builder I pulled the trigger. The X570 motherboard has plenty of room for expansion and upgrades. Combined with AMD chip allows utilization of gen 4 M.2. Pcie slots allow for future graphics card upgrades. 850w power supply leaves plenty of headroom for expansion and upgrades. In order to stay in budget I sacrificed slightly on graphics card. Won’t effect functionality until switching to 2020 software upgrade later in 2021. Also saved on ram and case. Pretty pleased with case airflow. Need to swap fans to push air thru radiator but case is a pain and don’t want to remove cooler from cpu again. Rewired entire build after a couple weeks. Plenty of room and openings to secure groups based on type or location of wire origin. Ram’s ok. Will upgrade to 32g cards eventually and move to lower latency. When said and done I have a solid workhorse that will carry me thru several future upgrades and remain software capable for several years. Took one nerve racking night and an afternoon to assemble. The education of hands on assembly and initial setup was worth the cost to play. Didn’t fry anything!$2,559.90 -

I also kept AAA games in mind like Assassin's Creed and the 2070 Super does a very good job at hitting high frame rates on ultra settings at 1080p. I upgraded recently from 16GB to 32GB of ram because I started running bots on my computer, and I may even need to upgrade to 64GB soon! My next upgrade will probably be to 10th gen Intel or 4th Gen ryzen so I can both play games and run my bots at the same time, since both are too taxing on the 7700k.$2,065.91 -

The old computer that I used mainly for gaming decided to break on me so in order to get replacement parts I would've had to... I checked the Microcenter website and realized they had everything in stock and even had some better prices. The nearest Microcenter to me was four hours away at the Marietta location in Atlanta (btw we need a Microcenter in Nashville, thanks). I figured a day trip was better than having to wait on Amazon. Since my old pc was lacking a little anyway I decided to get a big upgrade, Ryzen 3700x with an RTX 2070 Super, by far the most I've spent on a PC upgrade. I decided to go all out and try for some nice RGB, in hindsight I wish I mounted the RGB fans at the top instead of the front as I didn't realize the Lian Li LanCool 2 already had RGB on the front. This case was a dream to build in by the way and made cable management very easy. While my adventure to the great Mecca that is Microcenter was long, it was indeed worth every hour on the road. Huge shoutout to my dad for dropping everything to go with me, made for a fun trip.$1,317.93 -

The first real upgrade was to a GTX 1060 for VR, then I got a Ryzen 7 1700 when Zen launched, and when mining exploded I got in early enough with my modest little machine to buy a 1070. Between those mining Etherium I saved up enough to sell those and get a EVGA 1080 TI Hybrid. I then traded my dad for one of his MSI Armour 1080 TI he had after mining died (since he was one of the weirdos who bought 10 graphics cards for it) and a small Corsair AIO since it seemed to be a better overclocker than my hybrid. That’s actually still the card I have today (yes the list says 2070 super it’s just the closest thing to it). Then when Zen 2 came out, I showed up on launch day and got me a 3700x. As luck would have it my motherboard didn’t get the bios update so I had to get a new one, and at the time the cheapest one with a post code read out was the behemoth of a board that is the Crosshair VIII. It wasn’t a wise purchasing decision if I’m being honest but I love the board nonetheless (even if the overclocking buttons don’t work as advertised). The reason I put this build here as new, is because one, I’ve never posted it before, and two, I just rebuilt the entire thing in an 011 Dynamic with custom water cooling. Another enormous waste of money, but one I love nonetheless. I think the theme here is to have fun with the computer not on the computer. With the new loop, and the 20$ gpu block, t-die is 40 degrees in time spy extreme fully overclocked. I now hold the world record in my hardware config (aside from a guy who somehow hacked 3D mark and is 2000 points above stock at stock clocks). Other than the cooling though, I also modified the current sense circuit for the 2 8 pin pcie power connectors by piggybacking some 8 miliohm resistors on top of the existing ones. This means under full load the card thinks it’s only using 80% of its (already modded through vbios) 120% Limit, stopping gpu boost from hitting power or thermal limits ever. I love this thing and I can’t wait to play with Zen 3 when it comes out, a unified ccd is going to be a whole new adventure to tinker with. A couple of notes before I go though, my TIM is not liquid metal, it’s Kryonaut, Cunductonaut was just the closest thing in stock. Additionally I don’t have the gigabyte SSD, I have a Sabrant Rocket that I got for way cheaper and actually has 50000 iops on the one in the build list. Lastly, the RGB on the fans is from Phanteks Halos that microcenter also doesn’t sell, but turns the beastly Vardar fans into something with really good rgb (the EK rgb Vardars only have one set of leds that aren’t individually addressable).$3,514.45 -

Then it came from a d15 chromax air cooling to now a custom loop build. The gpu doesnt have a water block on it because its used as a temporary card until the 3090. The loop might change depending on how big those 3000 series cards are going to be. There might be or a good chance that im going to swap the 240mm leviathan for 2 360mm leviathans depending on the 3090 temps. The water block is most likely going to get picked up from bykski with a temp reader replacing the original in and out piece. I am going to order another nf-f12 ippc 3k rpm for the 360 leviathan and 3 more for the second one. so far thats the plan im thinking about might add bits of accessories like flow readers or a bitspower hexagon.$3,304.47 -

Small Size Powerfull Hardward Decent bling under 1500$ I was able to get all of that at 1200$ I manage to pick up the graphics card and board for 450$, the Case and PSU at 120$, the Processor at 315, The hard drives & Memory at 170$, and lastly 80$ on CPU cooler and fans. The main game streamed on the computer GTA-V but that was a easy requirement. I wanted to make sure games like Cyberpunk 2077 would be playable with RTX at reasonable 1080P settings. the system over all is very enjoyable.$1,388.91 -

I got the idea to make a pc after watching bitwit and austin evans make custom pcs inside microcenter and when i found out i live only 1 hour away from microcenter i started planning my build, obssessively checking if motherboards were in stock (the board i was looking for kept getting reserved and sold out). Then one day i see they got a shipment and so i put the items in the cart and reserve them. I only reserved the motherboard and cpu because i was afraid they would sell out. So i planned a small trip with my gf to this store an hour away. At first i was just going to leave with the parts i reserved but walking into the store i saw an opportunity to grab almost everything (excluding graphics card more on that later) for a lot cheaper than i would get in other places and instantly instead of waiting on shipping. Luckily my brother upgraded his computer a couple years back so we had an extra graphics card laying around collecting dust so i decided to wait on the gc, insert the old asus r9 380 and keep looking at microcenter for a good time to upgrade. And thats what i would use this money for. I was looking at getting a rtx 2070 super but with the money i would be saving i can shoot for a 2080 ti!
