I built this PC in early 2020 with parts almost exclusively bought at Micro Center in St. Louis Park MN. When MN when into lockdown in early March, I used this computer religiously to keep in touch with my friends in Discord: playing games, watching movies, hanging out, and CADing. This computer is powerful enough that I don't have to think about what applications I am running or how many I am running at a time, I am able to do anything on this machine and I will be for the foreseeable future.

Superman is a multi-purpose desktop built in late 2018 to game, develop, and, in the era of covid-19, to work. I play mostly League of Legends (Zilean main, any support mains out there?), Heroes of the Storm, and Minecraft, which are all handed beautifully by the GeForce GTX 1080. For development, I'm part of a small team of < 10 people helping to make an Unreal Engine game Protoball (protoballgame.com, currently in open beta, check it out!). I also worked on the Community Dev team for Natural Selection 2 doing Lua script development and server mods. Lastly, for work, I'm a Cloud Security Engineer who loves building and securing systems in Amazon Web Services. Geeks gonna geek. The GTX 1080 has served me well, but I'm really looking forward to spending ~$500 (wink wink) on a new GTX 3000-series card! I'm absolutely in love with my setup, and hope that with a new card it will last me another 4-5 years before I build Superman's successor, Eradicator.

I hadn't taken the opportunity to build my own PC in a very long time so this was my first attempt. Overall I'm really happy with the build. My goal was to build a solid gaming PC that was somewhat future proof. Since I work in Information Systems I also wanted this system to be able to handle running multiple VMs simultaneously so I could have a little virtual lab of networked computers and practice some things I've been meaning to learn like database management, some light coding, etc. For games I currently have Skyrim, Civilization V and VI, Smite, Spellbreak, Fortnite and Baldur's Gate 3 (just downloaded, haven't fired it up yet), even the Gauntlet remake because I love a classic. With this build I have a code to get Assassin's Creed Valhalla when it drops so I'm looking forward to that. Also it is my preferred genre for gaming. The GPU is a placeholder so I wanted something decent but inexpensive until I could fully digest the benchmarks for the nVidia 30x and ATi cards coming out soon. I plan to upgrade it in a few months and either keep the RX 580 for another build for my kids or post it on ebay. Featured in the desk photo is a Samsung 32" Smart TV. I didn't include it in the parts list becuase I didn't buy it for this build and only decided to connect it as a third monitor because YouTube performs much better from the PC than trying to stream it directly on the TV. Other peripherals I own prior to this build but added them to the parts list are the HP 27f monitor, keyboard, and mouse. The desk is an IKEA Karlby, walnut 74" countertop (because it's completely solid unlike their desktops) with 8 Capita legs sitting on top of the Klimpen drawer unit and Klimpen bookshelf (they call it a table leg with storage). Forgive the atrocious photo edit job, it isn't my forte. I used Gimp. Lessons learned, I made a snap judgement on the PSU when I realized mine had sold out before it could be pulled for my order. I also need to work on cable management.

I have a solid power house of a PC that I continued to upgrade whenever I can!

FPS gaming. Mostly playing Warzone, but this computer is dual purpose, gmaing and photo editing. Work with Photoshop and Lightroom. Also, was not able to add a few key features on list below on build. Runing a Samsung 970 Evo plus 1 tb m.2 mvme solid state drive, Runing cooler master ML360R ARGB, and 6 more Cooler Master MF120R ARGB fans. I can really use the $500 gift card to buy GPU that I built this computer for but not able to buy! LOL. One day will be once of the currently lucky few that managed to get inline for 12 hours to buy a rare RTX 3080! Luckily my buddy waited in line for one and I was able to borrow his GTX 1660 ti till I get my hands on an ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3080 ;) Still haven't removed case plastic, waiting on GPU and Desk.

Recently upgraded my potato of a computer with some (much-needed) new parts from Micro Center. This rig is mainly used for games, typically Halo Reach, Minecraft, Far Cry 5, and Mirror's Edge Catalyst. It's also being used as a workstation since all of my college courses are online due to COVID-19. I build this machine part for part over the past 4 months to upgrade from my 6-year-old machine running an AMD FX-6350 (3-core/6-hyperthread) to a more powerful gaming and content creation machine to suit my needs. I joke with people that it all started with the case and it snowballed from there. When the build was said and done, only two components remained from my old build: the 1TB SSD that my OS is on and the power supply. Not all of the parts were available from Micro Center, but most of the ones in the shot were purchased from there. I needed a system that can play a lot of flight and space simulation games such as Ace Combat 7 and Battlestar Galactica Deadlock as well as Space MMOs like EVE Online and Star Trek Online. I play other casual games and this system doesn't break a sweat. Most of my content creation involves writing and illustrations found on my website www.burchbowserprojects.com and technokoopa.deviantart.com and this system barely flinches on those tasks. I also wanted something with RGB to reflect by personality and growing computer hardware experience. The only thing that I would have done differently was purchase a Radeon RX 5500XT or newer. For those wondering why Radeon, I tend to use Linux systems at time on this machine and Radeon has better open source drivers over NVIDIA's proprietary drivers. Also, when I purchased the MSI Armor RX 580, I still had my old motherboard and processor, and a newer GDDR6 with PCIe Gen 4 would not have been supported. The RX 580 is still more than capable of playing all of my games on my 1080p screen, so for now, there is no need to replace it when I have had it for at least 2 months at the time of this submission.

This gaming rig has been one of those projects that's been in the making for a lifetime. I've always wanted a gaming rig that matched what I've always seen from "art" looking builds. Big glass panels, fans all over the place, water cooling, and just overkilled for the sake of overkill. Over the last few years I had experimented with water cooling with custom loops, AIO's and all other configurations to get to this point. Honestly this build only happened because the 011 XL came out. At that point I had majority of my parts but in a Define R7. Swapping out and putting into a new home was priority number 1 for me. Moving everything out, and planning the loop the way I wanted with the blocks I wanted was a months long project at the beginning of the year. What sucked was going through multiple iterations of this build, as there was always something else i wanted to add or change. Over the course of this year, I got COVID just as I was starting to perform the build. It sucked because as I finished the first round of the build, I ended up in the hospital. Upon my recovery, it right there waiting for me, but I still wasn't satisfied. Found new mobo, swapped that out, went with monoblock, decided on clear tubing, and decided to veritcally mount the GPU. This PC has gone through multiple iterations, but I think where it's at now, is probably peak of what I'll reach with the current hardware I have. I would love to get my hands on a 3080 founders and a new EK waterblock for those founders, but I will need to be a patient bee for that one for now lol. As of now though, this gaming machine was a lifelong project turned reality all thanks to a new case that met all of my needs. Add that the time it took to gather the hardware, and BAM. We have what we have here. I am adding pictures of the buildout process as well as where it was, and where it's now.

I am currently in school to be a nurse-practitioner and since classes are all online now due to the pandemic, I need a PC—so I built one. I enjoy playing Counter-strike, Modern Warfare, and PUBG. As an Army Vet, I love Modern Warfare, game developers really put great efforts to portray the realism of war. Although I am against any war or conflict, great game nonetheless. In hindsight, I should have gotten an X570 motherboard to take advantage of its Pcie 4.0 capabilities and would have added a Cooler Master water-cooling system for my CPU.

When I was building my first computer I wanted something cheap sleek and could play games decently I wanted something that wouldn't stand out too much and it to blend into my minimalistic room and to show off my favorite color blue and I sort of achieve that with this computer. When I first got this computer I was excited to play My favorite game war thunder and rocket league plus vr games, but not now I'm working on video editing and I'm hoping one day I could upgrade my computer's ram, gpu and maybe cpu, with all of those upgrades it could help improve my gaming and editing, so that'swhy I'm here I'm sure I'm not going to win but might as well try and I hope you guys enjoy my PC. This build was made as my brother's first PC, who is also starting his first year of college this fall. So basically, this build was made for school work and some light casual gaming like League of Legends on the side. I thought it would be pretty cool and funny to have some crazy lighting going on during his online Zoom classes, hence the amount of RGB in the build. We specifically picked out parts that were good enough to last years without upgrading, except for the graphics card. With the RTX 3070 from NVIDIA coming over the horizon this month, we decided to settle on a $100 2GB card for now and will try everywhere for the 3070 when it drops. Again, remember this is mainly supposed to be a school computer, but wouldn't you agree that a 3070 in this would be beautiful :)
