They've recently gotten really interested in playing simulation games like Rollercoaster Tycoon and Cooking Simulator. They contacted me recently and were distraught that these two games they recently purchased do not run well on the laptop they've been using. As a result, we decided to do a cheap pc build was thrown together for the purposes of their light gaming.$444.94 -

I am going to fix it up when I upgrade my heatsink. It's currently on stock heatsink that came with the CPU. When I play games, the CPU core temperature is around 55C. It's not a huge problem, but I will definitely upgrade before summer hits. I am using this PC primary for gaming. I have played Wild heart and Apex on this PC. It's running very smoothly even at ultra graphical setting. No lag or drag. Overall, I am very happy with this setup.$1,754.95 -

I built this system with the goal of assembling a very budget-conscious machine that could still provide adequate performance for gaming at light to medium settings. It will be used mainly at 1080p and sometimes I might hook it up to a 1440p monitor to see how it manages. Microcenter was definitely a solid option for me to get the cpu, motherboard (combo discount) and gpu all at prices a little below what they go for on the major online retailers. One thing I might have done wrong was intially trying out an open-box graphics card. I had problems with that one displaying video even on initial motherboard post. So looking back on the process, I should have saved time and just bought the new graphics card I ended up exchanging for.$731.96 -

It was a sad day when I recently realized that the am4 socket, one into which I've heavily invested, is now officially obsolete and will see no more released cpu's that are compatible with the socket. Instead of abandoning my am4 setup that has served me well for many years, I decided to buy the processor that represented the single best upgrade available on the am4 socket, which is the 5900x3d. It pairs with my rtx 3080 nicely so far. One thing i might have done differently is a minor compatibility ive found between my motherboard and this particular rtx 3080. Specifically, the size of the graphics card obscures access to some of the sata ports on the motherboard. It's not a huge deal though and I've managed to work around it.$1,714.91 -

The goal of this build was to have a gaming platform that can handle most games at 4k/60fps and will maintain its edge for a long time (3-4 years) with only future GPU upgrades. I think this build is perfect for that. It can handle all games currently out in the market with ease. This build should last a couple of years before becoming completely outdated. With only GPU upgrades, it can keep up because graphic intensive game rely mostly on GPUs and usually not much from CPUs. I usually upgrade my GPUs to the previous gen exactly when the next gen is out and get the used ones to save a ton of money. This 3070 in the build was used, and I got a great deal on it:)$1,893.94 -

I burnt out the gpu fan headers on this GTX 970 a long time ago so i ziptied a 140mm case fan to the radiator and its still going strong. It peaks at like 68 celsius and it's overclocked to +90mhz. Absolutely crazy. Also my case is some weird antec case from like the cavemen ages but it's okay but it still works. It's also supposed to be a silent case but all my fans are super loud. Moving to Chicago and starting a new job, I decided to finally splurge on a decent gaming PC that would hopefully be a little bit future proof. Unfortunately current gen GPUs seem to just be more expensive, beefier versions of last gen, so I went for an older GPU that I got a great deal on at MC. I plan on playing a variety of AAA games: Elden Ring, Spider-Man, Skyrim, the Witcher 3, as well as things that are intensive like Minecraft w/ fancy shaders. I also will use this for everyday stuff like watching videos, web browsing, coding (not super intensive compilation).$1,209.95 -
