  i have a family member who needed me to upgrade him to a semi-modern system, even though he had some real, hardline... i have a family member who needed me to upgrade him to a semi-modern system, even though he had some real, hardline limitations on the total amount he could spend. this is the result. i am thankful that at this point in 2023, the prices on graphics cards have come down to the point where a decent mid-range card (rtx 3060 ti) can still be acquired without greatly exceeding a budget. throughout the process, he kepts telling me that he didn't care how it looked and that "ugly is fine!" personally if it were my build i would have done that differently with more attention to aesthetics. but he's really happy with it!

The goal of this build was to have a gaming platform that can handle most games at 4k/60fps and will maintain its edge for a long time (3-4 years) with only future GPU upgrades. I think this build is perfect for that. It can handle all games currently out in the market with ease. This build should last a couple of years before becoming completely outdated.With only GPU upgrades, it can keep up because graphic intensive game rely mostly on GPUs and usually not much from CPUs. I usually upgrade my GPUs to the previous gen exactly when the next gen is out and get the used ones to save a ton of money. This 3070 in the build was used, and I got a great deal on it:)

  this build is absolutely cursed but it's my child nonetheless. I burnt out the gpu fan headers on this GTX 970 a long time... this build is absolutely cursed but it's my child nonetheless. I burnt out the gpu fan headers on this GTX 970 a long time ago so i ziptied a 140mm case fan to the radiator and its still going strong. It peaks at like 68 celsius and it's overclocked to +90mhz. Absolutely crazy. Also my case is some weird antec case from like the cavemen ages but it's okay but it still works. It's also supposed to be a silent case but all my fans are super loud. I don't know how but all this and I still get 100+ fps on destiny.

Unfortunately current gen GPUs seem to just be more expensive, beefier versions of last gen, so I went for an older GPU that I got a great deal on at MC. I plan on playing a variety of AAA games: Elden Ring, Spider-Man, Skyrim, the Witcher 3, as well as things that are intensive like Minecraft w/ fancy shaders. I also will use this for everyday stuff like watching videos, web browsing, coding (not super intensive compilation).

Now she is all spruced up and the R9 290X suprisingly can keep up with modern games, but soon I'll be back to upgrade to a 6650 XT!
