How to restore data to Windows 7 after a Micro Center Data Backup
Micro Center Service backs up user data on either an external hard drive or a folder on the desktop of a new or recovered computer. These folders are labeled Micro Center Backup and usually contain the date of the backup.

Once the folder has been located we can move on to the next step in the process.
- Locate your Micro Center Backup folder, either on your Windows desktop, an Optical Disk (DVD) or the External Hard Drive.
- Double-click on the Micro Center Backup folder to open. (In this example
we will use a backup that has been saved to an external hard drive.)
- Locate the "Users" folder and double-click to open.
- Locate the user folder that contains your backup data to be copied. (In
this example, we will open "Joe Cool".)
- Double-click on your user folder to open it, revealing your data. Now, click
on the top border and drag the entire user folder window to the right edge
of the screen and it will snap into place.
- Select the user folder in Windows 7, to do this:
- Click on the Start button and look for your user's login name at the top right of the Start Menu.
- If this feature is "turned off" in the Start Menu properties, or you are moving files to a different user's directory, you can find it by opening the hard drive (usually C: ) under "Computer", and then opening the "Users" folder to locate the login names.
- Click to open it and drag it to left edge of the screen until it opens
to fill that half of the screen.
If done so correctly, your screen should look like this:
At this point you will be looking at the main user folders for the backup on the right and the system to be recovered on the left. The common folders listed on both usually include Desktop, My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, Favorites, My Videos, and Downloads. What appears in the windows depends on what you have created or what was generated by Windows. After a clean Windows installation or with a brand new user account, you may appear to be missing one or more of these folders in your new user folder.
- Select all of the folders in the backup window. Click and drag these folders and data from the User folder on the external drive or backup folder to the User folder on the new system. The system may ask you if you want to merge with the existing folder. Click on Yes. If the system finds a file with the same name it will give you some options. Choose copy and replace.
That is all there is to it. Follow these directions and you will have retrieved the majority of your data. There may be other data to be retrieved, but that is a more advanced retrieval and may require technical assistance.
