"I'm new to Mac computers and I can't seem to find information in the supplied manual, or anywhere else. Do I need to defragement my Mac like I do my PC, and if so, how do I do this? What kind of maintenance do I need to perform? ~Thanks"

Chris,
Since OS X is based on version of UNIX, there is no need to defragment your hard drive manually. Here's Apple's support page about fragmentation: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25668
As far as other maintenance, there are scripts that need to be run to clean out log files. If your computer is asleep or off overnight, these do not automatically run. For info about running the scripts manually, see the April 04 Random Access article.
